Galle Fort is not a heritage site you visit and move on from. It is a living UNESCO World Heritage town inside 17th-century Dutch coral-stone ramparts above the Indian Ocean - Portuguese foundations, Dutch reconstruction and British additions all still visible in a single afternoon walk. The lighthouse, the Dutch Reformed Church, the independent boutique lanes and the rampart walk at golden hour are what most visitors remember longest.
